The Pet Pro Challenge is a voluntary UK-wide initiative created by the Animal Focused Alliance to encourage transparency, professionalism, and informed choice in pet care services.
It exists to help pet professionals champion responsible practice and to support pet owners in understanding what “doing things properly” should look like when choosing someone to care for their animal.
The challenge is open to all pet professionals - you do not need to be a member of the Animal Focused Alliance to take part.

Why the Pet Pro Challenge exists
Working with animals is a rewarding profession, but it comes with real responsibility. Pet owners place enormous trust in professionals, often handing over a much-loved pet based on assumptions about a person’s professionalism, qualifications, and working practices.

The Pet Pro Challenge exists to reduce risk, improve transparency, and support better outcomes for animals, owners, and professionals.
WHAT DOES “PROPERLY INSURED. PROFESSIONALLY RESPONSIBLE.” MEAN?
The Pet Pro Challenge encourages pet professionals to open conversations with pet owners, being open about the foundations of professional practice, including:
Holding appropriate insurance for the services they provide
Understanding their responsibilities when working with animals
Following best practice and legal guidance
Being transparent and open with clients
It is about leading by example, not proving perfection. It’s not a guarantee or accreditation - it reflects a commitment to openness and responsible practice
By opening up these conversations we can encourage pet owners to ask the questions to everyone that they hand their pet over to, regardless of the service, driving up standards and highlighting those working without the fundamentals in place.
The logo: a conversation starter, not a badge
Pet professionals who take part in the Pet Pro Challenge receive the “Properly Insured, Professionally Responsible” digital logo.
The logo is designed to prompt conversations, not replace due diligence or regulation.
