Animal Focused Alliance Secures Primary Authority Partnership for Wales
The Animal Focused Alliance is proud to announce it has been formally approved in a Primary Authority partnership with Monmouthshire County Council—a significant step forward in supporting high standards and consistency for pet businesses in Wales.
A Primary Authority partnership is a government backed scheme that allows organisations like the Animal Focused Alliance to work directly with a single local authority (in this case, Monmouthshire Council) to receive assured, expert advice on regulation, particularly around the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (Wales) Regulations and the Animal Boarding Establishment Act.
This advice can then be shared with Alliance members across Wales, giving them confidence that they are meeting the legal standards—regardless of which local authority they operate in.
For pet businesses such as pet sellers, dog daycares, home boarders, breeders, animal encounter providers and others covered by the licensing regulations, the system can feel overwhelming, inconsistent and confusing. Local authorities may interpret and enforce the rules differently, leaving businesses unsure of what’s expected.
This partnership also comes at a critical time, following the Welsh Government’s recent announcement that it will explore the introduction of regulation for animal sanctuaries and pet grooming services.
